Dr. Subhaschandra Shetty is a consultant Otolaryngologist and Head and Neck Surgeon at the Northland District Hospital. He has a deep interest and extensive experience in Rhinology and Head and Neck surgery, especially in parotid and thyroid tumours.
He is an active member of the Multi-Disciplinary Head and Neck Tumour clinic in Auckland, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland. His interest in teaching and research has led him to publish over 40 peer reviewed scientific papers and present numerous presentations in international conferences, as well as hold an active role as council member in the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, which oversees the training of surgeons and maintenance of surgical standards in New Zealand and Australia..
Subhash completed his initial medical studies in India, working subsequently for St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences as a Surgeon and an Assistant Professor until 2003. Developing an interest in Head and Neck Surgery, he moved to Dunedin to undertake supervised clinical exposure and training within the speciality as well as broader aspects of clinical Otolaryngology, after which he was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2006. Since then, he has worked as a consultant Otolaryngologist/Head and Neck Surgeon at the Northland District Hospital and, between 2015 and 2021, at the Counties Manukau District Hospital, where he was also the Clinical Director. Furthermore, Dr. Subhash’s interest in the wider aspects of patient care led him to complete a Healthcare Leadership course at Harvard University in 2017.
